PRELIMINARY ROOST ASSESSMENTS
From inspections of barns, through to castles, culvert systems and military bases. There are few types of structure that we haven't inspected for bats.
We pride ourselves in trying to find roosts early in the survey process in order to help manage the expectations of our clients and design required mitigation into schemes at an early stage.
We make use of endoscopes, DNA testing of droppings and thermal sights to help in the search for bats during our inspections.
EMERGENCE SURVEYS
We can tackle any emergence survey and specialise in challenging rural sites with bats aplenty.
We only use experienced surveyors, with all survey teams led by a licence holder and equipped with the latest technology .
Our full time members of staff are at the forefront locally when it comes to using infra-red video and thermal cameras to boost both cost efficiency and survey accuracy.
Where necessary we can make use of some Advanced Licence Bat Survey Techniques to help characterise tricky roosts.
BAT LICENSING
We have helped our clients obtain over 100 bat mitigation licences for a wide range of developments and species.
Our full time ecologists both hold Accreditation Level 2 on the Earned Recognition bat licence and we are also registered to use the Bat Mitigation Class Licence.
We have a good practical understanding of building design, like to get our hands dirty and are pragmatic when designing mitigation schemes, with the emphases on achieving cost effective and positive conservation outcomes.
Where time allows we regularly assist other consultancies with bat mitigation licensing.
TREE SURVEYS
Both our core members of staff are experienced tree climbers that keep abreast of the latest research in relation to bats and trees.
Our experience ranges from the survey of individual parkland trees, through to large networks of woodland spanning nationally important infrastructure schemes.
We can take projects through from the Ground Level Tree Assessment, through to Potential Roost Features inspections surveys and emergence surveys, and on to licensing.
BAT ACTIVITY SURVEYS
Our experience spans large infrastructure schemes (road and rail), through renewable energy projects (solar and wind), to small barn conversions.
We make use of the latest static monitoring survey equipment to complement the findings of our thermal imagery complemented Nighttime Bat Walkover surveys.
Once the data has been collected we contextualise and display it to best inform the assessment of project impacts and the development of effective mitigation proposals.
TRAINING
Our staff have experience leading and training teams of bat surveyors across multiple offices at larger consultancies.
Coupled with experience gained through our voluntary work with South Yorkshire Bat Group, we apply our skills to lead training sessions for voluntary organisations and other consultancies.
We can suggest and facilitate visits to interesting local sites where a wide variety of bat species can be found and mitigation approaches can be explained.
